What Is Life Coaching?

My goal as your life coach is to help you to be happy. I know, I know, most of us were programmed to believe we can never be truly happy, except in our mothers’ dreams, so we usually expected and accepted much less. And perfect? That could also raise an eyebrow, maybe even two eyebrows. After all, we were taught that imperfection is the norm and perfection, well that’s an unattainable goal, unrealistic. And so some of us strove and struggled, while others of us gave up, perhaps with big sighs of relief. As your coach I want to challenge both these basic assumptions about life.

And so some of us strove and struggled, while others of us gave up, perhaps with big sighs of relief. As your coach I want to challenge both these basic assumptions about life.
Now that I have your attention, I’ll tell you my intention, again. I want to help you be happy. And, if you think happiness is an unrealistic goal, then I’m quite sure I can help you. I intend to help you set and achieve goals from your dreams if you are a dreamer, from your ambitions if you are an achiever, or from your talents, and we’re all talented in some way. Helping you find your specific goals and materialize them is one of my talents. I want you to create your perfect lifestyle.
Ready or not, life changes or transitions happen. And, intentionally or not, we create new lifestyles with each change. Picture your lifestyle as the daily living movie you create. It’s the setting and the action. It is the who, what, when, where and how of your precious life. It is the nuts and bolts, the people, places, events and careers. Hopefully, your lifestyle reflects your values and attitudes, not someone elses. Sometimes we’re lucky and these changes are fun and the resulting lifestyles great fits with our core natures, our authentic selves. Sometimes we plan these changes; others are spontaneous. Some may feel like the roller-coaster ride of adolescence; others are smooth as silk transitions. Perhaps one day you wake up and say, “Did I create this life? Well, I don’t like it anymore.” Think about how you did with some of the following changes. Were they hard, easy, fun, necessary, happy, sad?
